Pre-Planning
Pre-planning is the act of making your funeral and/or cemetery arrangements in advance. It gives the family the opportunity to express their wishes and feelings openly on a personal and important matter. These plans may be as simple or as elaborate as you choose. Pre-planning provides peace of mind for everyone involved.

A carefully pre-planned service can be the most comforting to your family, as it spares them from having to face decisions that are emotionally difficult at the time of death. The best way to plan for the future is by making calm, informed decisions, taking time to review your options. The same holds true when preplanning your final arrangements. Planning in advance makes financial sense, and helps you protect and prepare the people you care about most.

You and your family must make many decisions and gather numerous facts and documents when a death occurs. We realize this is a very difficult time and want you to know we are here to help. Following is some information we hope you find helpful as you take care of your loved one’s final arrangements.

What to Do
Most people do not know what to do when a death occurs.

• When a death occurs in a care facility, such as a hospital, hospice
facility or nursing home, the professional staff will notify you and the
necessary authorities. In other situations, such as when a death
occurs at home you should immediately contact 911; police and
emergency medical personnel will then determine the appropriate
  steps to take.

• Call or contact other family members and friends.

• Call clergy or other spiritual advisors.

• One of the first phone calls you will need to make is to the funeral
home you will entrust with the care of your loved one. This first call to
the funeral home lets the funeral arranger know that a death has
occurred. We will gather information to be able to transport your loved
one to the funeral home. The funeral arranger may ask you several
questions, including whether your loved one made any
prearrangements. A time will be set up to discuss a person detailed
  arrangements.
